Nelson Mandela - Personal summary

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He inspire many people because he is an example of overcoming, he helped bring an end to apartheid and has been a global advocate for human rights. Mandela became an overcoming symbol because he was born in a small village and over the years he were one of the most important politicians of south africa and the world, because of his fight against inequality and on 10 May 1994 he was inaugurated South Africa’s first democratically elected President. About the apartheid, it was a policy of racial segregation and discrimination against non-whites that existed in the Republic of South Africa from the 1940s to the 1990s, Mandela fought strongly about this policy and he was jailed for 27 years. In 1993 he won Nobel Peace Prize. After all his struggles against racial segregation, He still is a global advocate for human rights and continues to give support to various organizations. Nelson Mandela never wavered in his devotion to democracy, equality and learning. Despite terrible provocation, he never answered racism with racism. His life has been an inspiration to all who are oppressed and deprived, to all who are opposed to oppression and deprivation.

iOS 7 - Personal summary

This week, the Apple let available a new software update, called IOS7. The iOS7 is a free software update for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. This new update bring many good advantages and some disappointments and many new apps and functions. About the design, have good and bad points, because whatever button or function you need is easier to find. For example, now you can just speak what you want to control panels, using Siri: “Open brightness settings”. The bad point is that can look a little boring. The iPhone doesn’t have some functions like another operating systems, as a Back button and a system-wide Search button. The Camera app changed to a better design and switch among modes of the Video, Slow-motion video, photos, Square photos with Instagram-type filters, and Panorama. In concluding, although there are negative aspects, the positive ones are more prominent and the Apple highlighting increasingly.

BRASILIA - (Personal Summary)

Brasília is the federal capital of Brazil and the seat of government of the Federal District and It has a great value hystorical and patrimonial to my country. It has a population of about 3,716,996 in the metropolitan area, making it the fourth largest city in Brazil. It ranks lower at sixth in population. Brasília is the largest city in the world that did not exist at the beginning of the 20th century. From 1763 to 1960, Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil. At this time, resources tended to be centered in Brazil's southeast region near Rio de Janeiro. Brasília's geographically central location fostered a more regionally neutral federal capital, so they decided to construct the capital there. Juscelino Kubitschek, President of Brazil from 1956 to 1961 ordered the construction of Brasília, realizing the promise of the Constitution. Building Brasília was part of Juscelino's "fifty years of prosperity in five" plan. The city was built by the famous architect and landscape, Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx. It was finished in 41 months, from 1956 to April 21, 1960, when it was officially inaugurated. The city's design divides it into numbered blocks as well as sectors for specified activities and it architecture is famous in all world.

Christ the Redeemer (statue) - Important monument in Brazil

Christ the Redeemer is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. The monument is very important to Brazil because it marks a part of the history of my country, it was financed by Princess Izabel from Portugal to build a large religious monument with help of  priest Pedro Maria. In the history, some people say the construction was a gift of France, but the truth is that the donations came from Brazilian Catholics. The Statue its also symbol of the evolution of Brazilian civil engineering, because they use to build the reinforced concrete instead of steel and many other details that were modern for the time. The Statue represents Brazil like postal card, because it is one of the seven wonders of the modern world and it's one of the most monuments visited by religious people. Christ the Redeemer represents and has the function of show the beauty of my country.

Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras (personal interest)

Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras is a Brazilian football club from São Paulo. The club was founded on August 26, 1914, by  four Italian men who were members of the Italian community of São Paulo, Luigi Cervo, Vicenzo Ragognetti, Luigi Emanuele Marzo and Ezequiel Simone. Their dream was to found a big football team from two smaller, the  Pro Vercelli and the Torino. The Four italian men were employees of  Matarazzo's Industries, and it was because of this factory they got the support to create the team. Initially the name of the team was Palestra Italia, but during the World War II, Brazil entered the war supporting the allies and its dictatorship along with the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) forced Palestra Italia to change its name because of the reference to Italy. Palmeiras is one of the most successful clubs in Brazilian football. The team has won 11 national competitions, a record in the country. The club's most important titles have been the 8 national league titles and 3 national cups. In 1999, the team was declared the Champion of the Century in Brazilian football.

Introduction

Hi! my name is Ana Clara de Oliveira Faria and I'm 21 years old.
I used to live in Brazil with my parents, in a city called Aguas de Lindoia. 
Now, I'm participating of a Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program and I'm living in Tempe, AZ, USA.

I'm a Sun Devil now, studying environmental engineering in ASU and I'm proud of that.

Also, I'm vegetarian and yes, I like Carnival and my soccer team is Palmeiras!

Carnival

  
Carnival is one of the most expected events in Brazil. It's not a holiday, is an annual festival held during the Friday to the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. One of the reasons that I like Carnival is because it's the one of the celebrations that my friends and I can gather together, because my friends are living in different parts of Brazil, each one chose distinct Universities. Carnival is an amazing event that we can meet people from all parts of Brazil and the world. Every year, when we are celebrating the party, we always make many friends who have the same goal as us in Carnival: Enjoy the party with happiness! In 2012, I met a Japanese girl and we became good friends, when she comes to Brazil, she always visits me! Carnival is the period that the index of my town increases faster, like a three times a day! Carnival is the party more lively, fun and beautiful to me.. the streets are adorned and the party is often characterized by "blocos carnavalescos" with varying themes and costumes style, and we have the "trios eletricos" to guarantee the enjoyment. Carnival is really special to me, It's an event that can be with the people that I love and we have so much fun!
